Fretboard IQ teaches you to understand the layout of the
fretboard properly through a series of workshops. These Workshops were
created to help cover special topics every guitar player must understand
in order to even consider claiming mastery of the fretboard.
Understanding the fretboard is simple
if you have the right information!
Here it is in a nutshell!!!
Step 1.
Learn your octave patterns
The
Octave Patterns Workshop
in Fretboard IQ teaches you about the C, A, G, E and D octave patterns that interconnect
on the guitar to form a framework for piecing the entire fretboard together.
Step 2. Learn the major scale form for each octave pattern
Major scales are the foundation of music theory and
fretboard understanding. Every chord, scale, arpeggio and interval is
defined in reference to the major scales. You must know them on
your instrument and in your mind if you want to understand the
fretboard and music theory in general. The Major Scales Workshop is an extensive major scale
resource covering everything you need to get them down quickly.
By the way, the Major Scales Discovery & Drill screens in
the theory tutorials section of Fretboard IQ are meant to compliment this
workshop to address getting them down in your mind. We have left nothing
to chance. Every resource you need to succeed is here in Fretboard IQ.
Step 3. Learn the scale degree formulas for various scales,
chords, intervals
Step 3 actually takes place in a number of ways over time. Chords for
instance reveal their construction through the notation used to describe them
but you have to know how to read the hidden meanings. In the tutorials section
of Fretboard IQ we have the
Chord Construction Discovery
& Drill screens
that walk you through those hidden meanings interactively. You simply click and
learn. The objective is to free your mind so to speak so that you will
understand the construction of any chord simply by seeing how its written as
plainly as you are reading these words now.
The 5 Chord Workshops in Fretboard IQ compliment the
Chord Construction Discovery & Drill screens by bridging the gap between chord theory and
application. The common goal of these 5 screens is to show you how chord
formulas are actually applied on the guitar.

We said earlier that Step 3 above happens in a number of
ways. You might pick up a chord or scale from jamming with a friend for
instance. If you know the octave patterns and major scales and information
provided above you'll be able to reverse engineer any chord or scale and figure
out what it is on your own using the information you've learned from Fretboard
IQ.
In
Summary
The CAGED concept is how the fretboard is laid out. Period. End of
Story. You either understand this or you don't. You might not call what you
understand CAGED but it still is none the less. It doesn't matter if you get
this information from Fretboard IQ or somewhere else. Eventually when you
understand the layout of the fretboard it will ultimately be based on these
ideas. This is not something we invented either. These principles are as old as
the hills. |
