Hi. My name is Joe Shults
and I am the sole author of Fretboard IQ. There currently is no "Us" but
hopefully that will change with time. I thought it might be
semi-interesting to explain how Fretboard IQ came to be. So... it was a
dark and rainy night... just kidding.
First, let me tell you that
I have had the guitar bug since I was 11 years old and I've been playing
for over thirty years. Put two and two together and yes, I am older than
I wish I was, but not in spirit. I'm not sure what good that will do me
though. Anyway, I went to the Guitar Institute of Technology, used to
play 14 hours a day for years straight and pretty much love guitar
playing just about more than my kids. It's close.
At some point in my life I
decided that food was pretty cool and my kids seemed to like it as well
so I headed back to school in my thirties to get in to something that
would provide food for me and my kids. The starving musician thing was
just not cutting the mustard so to speak. That's how I got into
programming.
On to Fretboard IQ... I had
visited a friend of mine who is a really great player earlier in the
month. During our visit, he was explaining and demonstrating some
altered scale concepts over some dominant chords which really isn't my
thing but at the time I wanted to play around with it. I had the thought
"Wouldn't it be cool if I had a program that would allow me to throw a
chord and a scale on a fretboard at the same time so I could see the
relationship?" That's how it started. I sat down that night and started
programming and about 11 months later finished the program. I am very
proud of this program and for me it is an act of love in a sense. I know
that sounds corny but it is the product of my two greatest passions in
life, guitar and programming. For those of you who have the guitar bug
as well I am sure you can relate. |
